This is a rough estimate for education, not credit advice. Scoring models weigh utilization differently and also look at many other factors. Nothing you type is sent anywhere.
How this is calculated
Credit utilization is the balance on a revolving account divided by its credit limit. Overall utilization adds up every balance and every limit first, then divides. Most scoring models reward keeping utilization under 30%, both overall and on any single card, with the lowest scores' impact typically seen under 10%.
Frequently asked questions
Does paying in full every month avoid this?
Not always. Many issuers report the statement balance, which can be high even if you pay it off before interest is charged. Paying down the balance before the statement date can lower the reported utilization.
Should I request a higher limit instead of paying down debt?
A higher limit lowers utilization on paper, but it does not reduce what you owe. Paying down the balance helps both your utilization and your total debt.
